Shareware by YAV (for Macintosh computers)

Software by YAV

Here is some shareware, freeware, demo versions and, in some cases, fully functional versions of software by YAV. Some of this software was originally intended for the Music and Sound Bible PowerTools Software Supplement. Incidentally, all software available here is strictly Macintosh-compatible at this time (Would you like to know why all this software is for the Macintosh?). Everything is in compressed self-extracting archives or installers. Many different members of the YAV Team contributed to the development of about half of the programs available here. If you download software here you understand that you are in many cases downloading. With this in mind, normal shareware conventions apply. Although the latest version is always here (and a few days later on AOL) I'm also adding updaters to bring earlier versions up to the latest version (for example, versions that you might find on the "BBS-in-a-Box" CD-ROM, MacFormat CD-ROM, or a number of the Macworld CD-ROMs that now need to be updated).

YAV's RAD Tools (1.3.1) - 19 Oct 1998

YAV's Rapid Application Development System for SuperCard 3

YAV's RAD Tools are three externals that install nearly 300 powerful commands and functions into the SuperCard message hierarchy which are just as easy to use as those provided by Allegiant. RAD stands for Rapid Application Development. And with the YAV's RAD Tools commands and functions in place, most of the tedious programming tasks are already done for you. YAV's RAD Tools take care of the things that you need to do with nearly every SuperCard project you create. Tasks like document handling, file I/O, printing, window, and menu management; string, list, and number manipulation including extended find and replace options. Key-trapping, dialogs and alerts, button and field control - even text field Undo and Redo is accounted for with YAV's RAD Tools. Online help is provided. YAV's RAD Tools also generates pre-configured project shells with all the standard menus and windows working the way they should in advance!.

SuperCard VooDoo (1.0) - Mar 1996

Serious Stuff for SuperCard Scriptors

This file will tell you more about YAV's RAD Tools for SuperCard and also give you the bonus "VooDoo" palette. Unlike almost everything else available here, this project requires SuperCard or the SuperCard Player (i.e., It is NOT a standalone).

SuperCard VooDoo is also available from a few of the finer ftp sites around cyberspace.

FormatScript (1.6) - June 1996

An XFCN for SuperCard script-formatting

FormatScript is an XFCN that will format a script you pass it and return the formatted script for pasting into a field (or whevever you want -- great for creating documentation with source c ode or reporting on SuperCard projects). It handles a number of cases which can't occur in the HyperCard formatScript XFCNs that are floating around -- for example, SuperCard's Switch and Case statements. Also it allows you to set the tab indent (or defaults to 4 spaces). This XFCN is free for all for non-commerical AND commercial use.

Although the YME toolkit is a commercial product including hundreds of additional XFCNs, an interface to use them and much more, these versions of these particular externals are being distributed as shareware. Inludes: ymeInvert, ymeRetro, ymeRetroInvert, ymePalind, ymeTranspoReal, ymeTranspoTonal, ymeMIDItoNote, ymeNoteToMIDI, ymeFreePerm, ymeFrePerPro, ymeCircPerm, ymePicOne, ymePicSomRep, ymePicSomUni, ymePicSomWgt, ymePicSomWrp.

YAVshow (1.1) - July 1995

or "How much can you run from a single floppy?"

This demo will show you some of the projects we've been doing over the past few years in the following areas: Interactive Media, CD-ROM Development, Interface Design, Development Tools, Custom Software, and Multimedia Music. It was a rather rushed job (4 days) to see how much of a demo we could fit on a single floppy disk without resorting to compression software (other than QuickTime?). The file un-binhexes to 1,356k.The app requires QuickTime 2.0 or later as well as the QuickTime Musical Instruments extension. It runs best on 24-bit monitors (millions of colors) but will also play at lower bit depths.

INTstaller (demo vers 1.0.2) - Mar 1995

Internet & WWW Installation & Configuration Utility

INTstaller is a Macintosh internet/world wide web installation and configuration tool that internet hosts may license to give away to their Macintosh users for the purpose of getting them on-line as quickly as possible. Among other features, the software installs and configures all required internet and world wide web applications, viewers, and browsers. SLIP, PPP, and MacTCP are also automatically configured for specific hosts. Hotlists, bookmarks, nicknames, and other databases may be attached to software at the discretion of each provider. Trilingual interface provides a guided tour of host's site. Designed to support a variety of scenarios (floppy disks or a CD-ROM), INTstaller is truly a one-button solution for bringing the Internet and the world wide web to the Macintosh. This demo is provided as a disk image. Use Disk Copy to create a floppy or simply mount the image using DropDisk or a similar utility.

INTstallerTour (Dutch Version) - July 1995

Non-interactive tour of INTstaller (see above)

Unlike the demo version above (which is an "install-disabled" version of the actual software), this app is a self-running non-interactive tour of the key features to the INTstaller. Requires a Macintosh with QuickTime 2.0 or later as well as the QuickTime Musical Instruments extension. It runs best on 24-bit monitors (millions of colors) but will also play at lower bit depths.

MMSB Index (1.0)

Macworld Music & Sound Bible On-line Index

This program provides a complete index to the first edition of the Macworld Music & Sound Bible. The index is searchable and provides a nice interface to cross-references and related topics. There is also a Random button that lets you interact with the index in the manner you would were it a printed index (flipping through entries to see what catches your eye.) One option is to type the first 1 to 3 letters of the topic you are looking for. Note that this indexes only the 1450 pages published in the first edition (not the extra 1000 pages that are being restored to the second edition Book/CD-ROM).

MMSB Glossary (1.0)

Macworld Music & Sound Bible On-line Glossary

This program provides the complete MacMusician's glossary (over 2000 terms) that was cut from the first edition of the Macworld Music & Sound Bible. The glossary is searchable and offers a complete hyper-linked hot-text option for every entry. Note that because this material was intended for inclusion in the first edition of the Macworld Music & Sound Bible, only terms and definitions relevent at that time are included (i.e. two years is a long time in terms of technological advances). The Glossary will be greatly enhanced for the forthcoming second edition Book/CD-ROM.

If we haven't been in touch in the past six months then you should probably read this document.

MusicWorks MIDI (1.1)

The first Macintosh Music software

Available by special permission

In 1984, the year the Macintosh was introduced, MusicWorks appeared as the first Macintosh music product. MusicWorks was created by software wizard, Jay Fenton (of "Gorf" fame), who went on to program VideoWorks and VideoWorks Interactive, the software that Apple used to author all of its interactive guided tour animations and the same software that later evolved into Macromind Director and is now marketed as Macromedia Director.
The first version of MusicWorks provided simple score editing capabilities and the option to listen to scores through the Macintosh's built-in speaker using sounds that you could edit.
The second version (1.1), called MusicWorks MIDI and available for download here, added MIDI options but was never released commercially. When you run the program, notice that nearly all the user-interface features adopted by future music programs are already present in this early release.
